PING’s G440 driver family remains one of the safest bets in the game for forgiveness and consistency. It comes in three heads — Max, LST, and SFT — that share the same technology but target different players.
What’s New Across the Range
The standout change is a Free Hosel design: PING removed weight from part of the hosel and relocated it lower and farther back, creating the brand’s deepest center of gravity ever in a driver. A CarbonFly Wrap crown saves more weight for the same purpose, a thinner, more flexible titanium face broadens ball speed across the hitting area, and a slightly longer stock shaft adds a touch of speed. All heads keep an adjustable hosel of plus or minus 1.5°.
G440 Max: Maximum Forgiveness
The Max is the do-everything model that fits most golfers, built around a 29-gram, three-position adjustable back weight and offered in 9°, 10.5°, and 12°. If you are not sure which G440 to play, start here.
G440 LST: Low Spin for Speed
The LST (Low Spin Technology) is a 450cc head aimed at faster swings that need lower spin and more control. It also carries the 29-gram back weight and comes in 9° and 10.5°.
G440 SFT: Straight-Flight Help
The SFT (Straight Flight Technology) is the 460cc slice-fighter, with a two-position (Draw and Draw+) 23-gram back weight. Notably, PING now offers it in a 9° head — something fitters had been asking for — so slice-prone players with speed no longer have to give up a stronger loft.
Who It’s For
Almost everyone finds a fit somewhere in the G440 range: the Max for the majority, the LST for stronger players chasing lower spin, and the SFT for anyone battling a slice. As always with PING, a fitting for loft, shaft, and weight setting pays off.
